Kerri Strug - 1996 Olympics Team Optionals - Floor Exercise

Wasze zdanie:
  • @kras118 that is wrong, China and Belarus also qualified for the finals, but they went before the top 4 teams.
  • That 2nd pass was so bad. It a chucked to hell layout or a gross looking tuck. Either way yuck!
  • What is this music called? Been trying to look for it forever! Please can someone tell me?
  • @russianskatingfan: I never said that Kerri could win; I said that Kerri would've contended.
  • Wow
  • Look at this chick tumble! She looks like she's about to blast into orbit. I love her sassy music, too.
  • Well I'm not sure what you mean, but in 1996, the teams qualified into Day 2 with their compulsories scores from Day 1, in which the USA came in 2nd behind Russia. They said in an interview that that gave them a push going into Day 2 and pumped them up. It wasn't like today where they competed the same routines twice, once in a qualification round and twice in a team final. (which is prrretty stupid in my eyes.It does nothing to test their actual overall ability, it's just luck of doing well 2x)
  • @carschup Well it turns out they didn't need her score to win the title... And she was never scored well on beam internationally. Lots of bad form. That would have been her down fall. She had a shot on Vault and Floor for a medal, not sure about gold but a medal on both for sure!
  • Yes, but partly, Kerri is just petite, which is a huge advantage for gymnatics, and the required aerodynamics. She doesn't look at all unhealthy, just, lean and light, like a gymnast must be. Like a lot of sports, gymnastics requires a body to have very little body fat, so many of the gymnasts bodies are pre pubescent. : )
  • I´m sure Kerri would´ve been AA gold medalist, if she wouldn´t have injured... still she got the gold for evreryone...
  • @matthewxcountry: I wasn't saying with this routine. On general principle. If she had gotten to compete at the floor finals, she could've been the gold medalist.
  • Dont be sad she didnt compete in the AA, She wouldve never have become as famous as she did if the whole vault hadnt have happened. Most non gymnastic fan Americans know who Ms Strugg is
  • Thrusting coaches at the end hahahhaha
  • Well.. let me ammend. If you believe the rumors, that when you compete in America, americans get a bump in scoring, there would've been a chance. But I always believe that if Kerri could've competed she would've contended for a gold. Would she have won, maybe, maybe not. But she would've contended.
  • 1.16. Why?!
  • @petis1976 u can honestly say Kerri's floor was more difficult than dawes floor?.. be honest? they both did the double layout opening and full twisting double as there finals ... but dawes 2nd tumbling pass was alot more difficult than Kerri's .. remember dawes won 4 national titles on floor... how many have kerri won? 0 ... and nobody knows what kerri would have done for event finals, so we cant jus assume anything
  • Kerri was NOT known for folding under pressure. Her only asset was her consistency in fact, and it helped her remain relevant despite her hideous form and dance. At every World and Olympic meet she was in she hit every single routine. It looks like you are trying to invent reasons she didnt do better when in fact she just wasnt good enough.
  • Buck likes this!
  • i think now the gymnast are a little bit more complex
  • I have to say that 96 is my favorite leo year. I really liked the leo that the team wore that year out of all the other olympics ive watched. simple and well designed
  • UGH! if only she competed on the floor event finals she would of probably gave Podkopayeva a run for her money!
  • you are not one of the greastest spellers you spelt gymnast wrong
  • What a GREAT athlete!
  • i think jaycies is spectacular also. she gets so much height!
  • Had she not injured her ankle; she so would've been the floor gold medalist.
  • that's one fucking big kitchen.. DAMNN!!!
  • Lol @ bela and nunno at the end flipping out ahaha
  • The 96 team was so incredible...and I honestly feel that if Kerri wasn't injured, she would have had a shot at the all around gold....every event and move she does is so powerful...not to mention the stuck landings.....people have dogged her, laughed at her, put her down, made fun of her voice (which I think had to do with the female athlete triad) but I think she was a HELL of a gymnast.
  • only 4 teams qualified to finals, and the go in order. 1st (Russia) on vault, 2nd (USA) on bars, etc.
  • You are on crack. First of all Miller was hidden in the f loor lineup since she wasnt even close to the best U.S gymnast on floor. Her score would have been way down from Dawes even had she hit the double layout, so that wouldnt have helped Kerri in anyway. Dawes outscored Kerri on floor since she is better, both in tumbling and presentation. In fact it is a joke Kerri scored as close to Dawes as she did, but all because she was put up last I guess.
  • 1:16. Over and over and over.
  • I cant stand the western style music, but the opening 0 - 13 seconds is awesome....kerris girlish face, and then pan out, and she powers into an awesome opener with hardcore music....wicked
  • I was born the year after this >_<.
  • @Ineedthat06 No I didn't say that, but he score would have been higher. Dawes put more difficulty into her routine but she wasn't that far ahead of Kerri. Kerri was known to fold under pressure, but in Atlanta we saw another side, and instead the world watch the Doms and Shannon perform as well as possible. Could Kerri have done better...We will never know, but I'd like to think she would have put on one hell of a show, and finally put to bed the cracks under pressure label.
  • Watch the last tumbling pass(full-twisting double) John Tesh was right everyone was watching Kerri watch the audience and watch how everyone claps and stands up the second Kerri landed. She really is one of the greatest gmnasts.
  • Fantastic. Really, the energy is amazing.
  • very interesting routine- awesome!
  • Kerri is 1 of my faves! She landed that vault although she was hurt! I luv her!
  • The last pass was great! Layout full in open tuck! She was so high and dropped it right on the money! KERRI was great!
  • @russianskatingfan I agree with you. I don't know what her 2nd vault would have been but I don't see that happening. In the AA her horrid form on beam would have hurt her. Maybe a bronze on floor since Dawes took her place.
  • without hurting herself in the vault, she would problably win more individual olympic medals.
  • they actually did; after this performace they went to commercial break and when they returned John Tesh announced it... but it wasnt shown on this particular clip. its me, d
  • Omg I love the coaches at the end of all of her events they totally freak out!
  • @liljayyo1 negative ... Kerri's floor wasnt even more difficult than dawes, and definitly not lilia's
  • does anyone know what place team usa qualified? cause they did vault last im assuming since thats when she messed up her ankle.. and dont the top two teams start on vault?
  • She actually qualified first in the FX finals ahead of Lilia with her two combined scores.
  • @Junon999 Lilia got a 9.85 in the Compulsaries and I think a 9.762 in optionals. She was 2nd to qualify, but it was still a high placement.
  • @Ineedthat06 Strug was actually ranked #1 int he qualification round plus Dawes wasn't even in the event finals at first she took Strug's place and it really doesn't matter with difficulty because Execution is really important to I'm not saying that Kerri would of won all I said was it would of been a closer competition if she was healthy....
  • i love bela and nunno flipping out together at the end...
  • Higher in the 2nd flip of the double lay....man she was juiced up!
