Kerri Strug - 1996 Olympics Team Optionals - Vault 2

Wasze zdanie:
  • snap crackle pop
  • Perfect!
  • faking it so obvious
  • I will NEVER complain of soreness again...THAT's the definition of valor!
  • how dare i complain over hurting legs during a run.
  • Outstanding display of bravery and team work. I was almost in tears.
  • I think a lot of other gymnasts would have done much, much more to milk the attention or prolong the media attention... probably even to this day. Kerri was very gracious when talking about the injury and didn't exaggerate- She always sounded like I didn't realize I was that hurt, so I just did another vault. Imagine if someone like Bruce Jenner did this vault lol
  • @LilPetit actually they were called the Magnificent Seven BEFORE the Olympics, but I agree with your other comments
  • Someone shouted "come on, do it!" -_-
  • well said
  • retard don't watch, don't post , just die and be done with it, igf you don't like go see your pig go take a crap! pss the americans won gold today again arssssswipe!
  • Why would she did that to her ankle if it was hurt? Hm. One, your question doesn't make any sense. Two, assuming you're asking why would she do the second vault if her ankle was injured, she did it because she had a committment to the USA and to her teammates and she knew everyone was counting on her to do her best and seal the gold for the US.
  • I don't care what people say, I still say that Kerri DID severly injury herself, while doing something she had, or wanted to do. She took one for the team. Also, if she was faking it, the Doctors at the event wouldn't have lied about it. They would've told the Judges so, and they would've disqualified Miss Strugs effort. They would've handled the situation much the same I imagine as an athelete who is suppected of using performance enhanging drugs. Also as to Why she did it, Determintion...
  • Anyone who thinks she faked the injury is insane! This injury forced her to retire from gymnastics. This is also my favorite Olympic moment of all-time.
  • Holy crap, you can not fake that. that was great!
  • i don't think they said one foot, i think it was her coach saying "you can do it" or something like that.
  • I agree with almost everything you said apart from one point. Ultimately it turned out that Kerri would not have needed to perform a second vault at all and America would still have won the gold. Of course they didn't know this at the time as the Russian Galieva performed after Kerri. Also the notion that America wouldn't have medaled at all without this vault is completely untrue. They could have potentially dropped to silver though had the Russians final performance been better.
  • I don't want to believe this either but when I noticed how she immediately collapsed on top of her "injury", it looked a little suspect to me. She WAS taken for x-rays. However, x-rays can only confirm breaks and seperations. A tear (just like back and neck injuries) will not produce a discernable image on an x-ray and are treated based upon the patients account of the injury. So, it wasn't "proven". Watch it again and tell me why you think she did that to her ankle if it was hurt?
  • Ummm, she kinda didn't fake it because it was proven that she did have an injury. It shows her ankle during the Individual AA at one point. Her ankle is distorted.
  • kerri strugg did indeed strugg
  • She absolutely had an injury. In the video of the all around competition they show her ankle and it is hugely swollen and blue. Search this in youtube: 1996 Olympics Women's Gymnastics Individual All-around. They show the ankle at 3:27 on that video. It's horrible looking.
  • @superque4 Are you serious? There were doctors' statements that she had a serious ankle injury - a third degree sprain and bad tendon damage. Are you a doctor? Do you have proof that she did not in fact have an injury? I didn't think so. Now shut up and enjoy one of the most inspiring Olympic moments in history.
  • this is so true: I can't believe there are people who said she was faking. She has always been so gracious and has represented herself and the sport well. She makes appearances at major events and such, but then she's a wife and mom and has a job: you know that's her priority
  • Ummm I think you should always know what my answer should be. She did in fact severely damage her ankle. I remember the video well enough, the AA.
  • shes remarkable
  • it says: COME ON, SCORE!
  • Well, aren't you lovely.
  • How did this only get a 9.712? Did they deduct for the landing? It's a surprisingly fantastic vault, all things considered. Great height, distance, good form--and I think she would have stuck it cold if her ankle had been healthy.
  • @bbhouk1 Sounds more like, 'come on, do it' to me...
  • One of those "HOW DID THEY DO THAT?" moments at the Olympics. The Olympics make people do things that seem impossible.
  • I remember her shaking out her foot on her first vault, but I would never have imagined that she was injured as seriously as she was, and I got the impression that even she didn't realize it herself how serious it was after the 1st one. Maybe it was adrenaline, and she didn't feel the pain quite as bad until the second vault. But it's amazing that she landed on one foot
  • @lisapizza16 Paha! I know right :L
  • I remember seeing this on TV when I was a kid. It still inspires me today.
  • Willsbob123 you are totally right. people are dumb
  • @LMA629 Yeah, exactly.
  • Exactly. How she got through that vault is beyond me.
  • Even though it happened a long time ago. i give her an A. for effort for still play while hurt. But If you stop the video at the point of landing she lands on 2 feet and then raises the hurt foot.
  • superque4, EVERYBODY who saw this gold medal winning moment knows for a FACT that she severely hurt her ankle. I can't believe you won't believe something that actually happened almost 13 years ago. WHY would Kerri Strug fake an injury in a sport where injuries are NOT uncommon?
  • This is incorrect, Moceanu's score on vault was high enough for the team to have won. The American coaches did not know this though. The Americans won by more than 0.8.
  • WOW!
  • Actually, Kerri's first vault was the one that injured her. The second one REALLY injured her. In the first vault, she tore some ligaments and in the second vault, the rest of the ankle got shot to heck. And since people play other sports with fractures or torn ligaments (usually itty bitty tears) all the time, it's not impossible to surmise that Kerri really did hurt herself. I ran with bad knee issues for my last two years of college because I loved my team and I loved the sport.
  • This moment tied for 1st as the best gold medal vault in US Women's Gymnastics history. The first being Mary Lou Retton.
  • This is the "top comment"? It doesn't even deserve to be called stupid - it's an insult to stupid comments. No sporting event in the world is going to disqualify someone because of something an audience member/spectator shouts. Period.
  • It sounds to me like the person is yelling "Come on do it! Come on!"
  • Even when I'm thinking about this Vault, Kellie Hill screaming "Good, good, good!" in the background come to mind. It's just as iconic as the vault itself.
  • I makes me so sad....
  • All I remember is that if Dominique Moceanu had not landed flat on her butt during her vault, Kerri would not have even had to make this vault that took her out of the all-around and event finals competitions. It was a courageous sacrifice for the team gold, but an avoidable one.
  • @superque4 She obviously was in pain, why would she fake an injury and risk an olympic gold. If you watch he first vault you can see her roll her ankle, it was broken but severly sprained. Also if you watch the all around from the next night, they show her sitting with her ankle unwrapped and it is swollen and purple. That's not something you can fake.
  • spectacular! *z-snap*
  • @crazy4theweekend not true. She needed to do it or they wouldn't have gotten the medal
